Digimon Games
The first games were made for the Wonderswan system. This was only available in Japan, and the first game to arrive for english language was Digimon World in 1999.

Digimon World
Released in 1999, this game followed the concept of raising a virtual pet. In fact, the inital plot is the young tamer being dragged into a V-Pet device which is why the game feels like a 3-Dimensional virtual pet game. You are given questions to answer which will determine whether you will get an Agumon or a Gabumon. If you need a guide to help you get the one you want, you can find it here.
Personally, I find this game fails to tell you what you need to do next. You can get stuck if your Digimon, once strong, suddenly dies at an important part of the game (like the Greymon challenge). With an in-training Digimon you have to spend the whole time of its level raising up stat points. You will regularly be interrupted by it needing the toilet or food.
I haven't yet found any cheat codes for it (PAL version) though some versions of Action Replay PSX may already have the codes installed. If you need some, check on sites like Neoseeker or Gamefaqs.

Digimon World 2003
This game is known as Digimon World 3 in the US. It was named 2003 here because of the year it was released (which was actually very late 2002.) Sources say that the real reason its name was changed was due to Digimon World 2 never seeing a release here in the UK (that's why I'm not reviewing it.) As another Junior character, you play in a virtual MMORPG and given three Digimon after a long registration process. Digimon are split into three 'packs', Monmon, Agumon, Renamon as the Powerful Pack, Kotemon, Patamon, Renamon as the Balanced Pack and Kumamon, Guilmon, Patamon as the Maniac Pack. I always choose the one with Kotemon since he is my favourite Rookie anyway.
There are a whole host of codes for this game (PAL version). These codes are either for a Gameshark or Action Replay, I'm not sure. Never use codes if you are worried they might screw up your game.

After Credits
Only the PAL version allows you to continue the storyline past Gallacticmon. But to do this successfully, you need to have been preparing for it before fighting him. There are items you need to get which are in areas that will be blocked off after the credits. If you've already got that far and forgot one item, you have to painfully start over. There may be teleport codes, though.

Digimon World 4
Should have kept the name Digimon World X, because this game is a totally different genre to the others and you can only unlock X Digimon as evolution. There are no more human characters and the game takes place inside a home world server. You choose from Dorumon, Agumon, Veemon or Guilmon and are given a unique starting weapon which cannot be traded to anyone else. The world is under attack by a virus and you need to find the source of the problem before everyone is affected. You first travel to Goblin Pass where you fight a strange Digimon which carries the virus. You rescue Leomon who is suffering from amnesia and has flashbacks of his journey and what happened to him. At various points in the game he will tell you things he can remember which will help you get to new areas.
The game is easy to finish, though at high levels you start to run out of places to get good experience. My Guilmon is just level 245 and at Dry Land Respawn spots it's the only efficient way to get him to level up. There are many secrets and bugs you can abuse in this game.

Rare red orb dropped from a King Digimon
I've only ever had two of these drop in the whole time I have played this game. It drops from King Digimon, though both were from the same one. To try to get one yourself, go in single player mode to Dry Land (super hard mode) and pass the Tyrannomons until you get to the area just before the loading screen to Dry Land 2. There is a black metal-fenced area to the east of a large building and has a collection of crates to the south of it. You will either get a King spawn, or an ordinary Mummymon. If there is no King, it will not drop this item. The red orb raises one of your stats at random.
Secret switch at Station X There is a hidden switchbox past the Station X activation panel. It's on the path leading away from the powerful tanks. The path turns at a right angle, and this is where the switch is. Hit the wall and it will flash white. The switch raises a bridge south of where you are, leading to the cluster of tanks. This makes it much easier to get past them and rewards you with a chest. Action Replay Codes
There are a few PAL action replay codes. These cheats require an Action replay device to work. You can view them HERE.

Digimon Rumble Arena
The first Digimon beat-em-up game is for the PSone. At the time it was released, Season three had only just aired here so the characters featured were very new. It is the only 3D fighter game (ignoring Digimon Battle Spirit) to have Renamon, Wormmon, Reapermon and Impmon as playable characters because they were left out of the sequel. It worked like a traditional fighter with item power ups in the form of cards, and healing items like bread and candy. There were some cards that could shoot elemental attacks towards the enemy.
To get Blackwargreymon as a playable character, you had to have a perfect winning streak up until the Ice arena and then defeat Reapermon without being killed.
To get Impmon as a playable character, you had to complete the game with all three Season 3 characters. This is the same for getting Imperialdramon PM and Omnimon.

There is also a cheat code section to allow you to unlock Mega levels for multiplayer games. They are:
Gallantmon: KIMJOY Imperialdramon FM: LINMON Imperialdramon PM: ROYBOY Megagargomon: MINNYN Omnimon: SERIUS Sakuyamon: KENSAN Wargreymon: QRIOUS There don't seem to be anymore for the others. For me, Wargreymon is the best character, though that won't help you unlock all the other characters. |
Digimon Rumble Arena 2
A graphics boost over the other game, this one is on the PS2 console. Despite the better environments and a few more arenas, there still isn't a huge selection of Digimon to choose from. They've even lost some from the previous game. I was disappointed when I saw Renamon wasn't in it. There is a lot of Season 4 characters, however, but still lacking different kinds. There are a lot of 'dark' variations which I feel hogged space for the popular characters that had been taken out. There are a lot more minigames and three digivolutions instead of two (I sighed at the thought of not being able to play as Kyubimon.) Chaos Wasteland is a dynamic weather changing arena: the floor tiles can drop in an unrecogniseable pattern, set on fire, have lightning strike them or turn into reverse gravity beams. I do like the extra powerful charge-up moves that each Level-three Digimon has. Some characters are clearly more powerful than others which is annoying if you like Biyomon or Veemon.
There were rumours that a secret Digimon could be fought through hacking, or a glitch. There are no pictures or sources to support this. If such a glitch existed, cheat codes would have been discovered by now. Youtube has no videos of anyone encountering it.
